The Advantages of Brain Working Recursive Therapy

How does it differ from other therapies.

The advantages of Brain Working Recursive Therapy are quite clear over other therapies.

In this article we will explore a few of them, but first let me set the scene of why it is so advantageous.

In the 80's there was an experiment undertaken by a scientist called Benjamin Libet. He set out to prove that we don't have free will like we think that we do. In his experiment, which you can watch more about in the doodly video below, he wired people up to brain wave monitoring equipment and asked them to record what time they made a decision to take an action.

What he discovered was that there was activity in the brain 0.5 of a second before the person recorded the time at which they had made their decision to act, as illustrated below.

Now, whilst Libet may not have achieved his theory of free will not existing, what he concluded was that there was definitely, what he termed, free won't. Meaning that although you don't have control over many of your behaviours, once you feel the urge to react there is the potential to change and stop yourself.

13 years ago, whilst reading about this experiment, it suddenly occurred to the founder of BWRT that if there is the gap between the readiness potential and our urge to react then utilising that short synaptic gap, we could effortlessly rewire the brain to make new decisions. So he set out to test and prove his hypothesis and the results were astounding for many different conditions and as a result Brain Working Recursive Therapy was born.

Noting that we are now working with the very primitive part of our brains, the part that drives our behaviour on an unconscious level, we can now instruct the brain to change the path on which is travelling in order to create a new response.

For example, let's say that you had anxiety or phobia reaction to spiders, we would discuss how you wanted to respond instead of how you currently respond and we repeat a neural mental sequence in which we train the brain to detach from the old emotional reaction and to rather behave in your new preferred way of acting.

The beauty of the technique is in the simplicity.

It doesn't require you to disclose or relive any personal trauma that you have been through. We don't make you go back to the event unnecessarily, we simply ask you to briefly, for a few seconds, remember the feeling of the very worst part of it and we detach you immediately from it and take you into the preferred response sequence.

The most exciting part of the therapy has been client's reaction to the worst part of their past following the treatment, which is that for some, they just cannot connect their brain to this emotional feeling at all. They still remember it but don't feel the visceral reactions that they did at the start of the treatment.

This makes the therapy quick and effective.

There is no need to spend decades talking about the problem and consciously going through the pain each time. Instead you'd need anywhere from 2 to 6 sessions, depending on how simple or complex your problem and any other surrounding factors that may arise that you may not have been aware of.

It is also easier to visualise the changes that are being made, so it doesn't feel "woo-woo". It is fantastic for the very analytical person, for whom clinical hypnotherapy can sometimes be a challenge.

The therapy has been helpful to many conditions and has given many people their lives back.
